As far as solar salt is concerned, once again the nature has taught us here on its own, how to recover the salt from the sea, in coastal flat lagoons or wetlands, where the seawater itself flows in and is trapped within them. Then, with the help of the natural evaporation (sun & wind), this seawater continuously condenses until it reaches its saturation limit, at which point the crystallization of the salt automatically begins. This is how nature offers us the salt, a product of a spontaneous natural process.

The technology of solar salt production from sea water has remained the same and unchanged for 1000 years. The only thing that has changed over the centuries is the type of energy we use to move the brine all over the saltwork, the mechanical way of the salt layer how is harvested and the means of the salt product transportation.

In a typical saltwork the general layout mainly includes four areas.

– The reservoirs area

– The evaporation basins area

– The crystallization area

– The facilities area

The production line of the primary solar salt, starts with the sea water supply to the saltwork from the sea, then by the evaporation of the brines in the reservoirs and the evaporation basins, starts the crystallization of the salt layer in the crystallizers. Then by draining the overlying brine layer disposal from the crystallizers, the harvesting of the salt layer begins, followed by the washing, with the accumulation in stock piling and finally the transportation and supply of the primary salt in the markets.
